SCI to float tender for 3 second-hand ships (05-02-2010)
|
The state-run Shipping Corp. of India Ltd (SCI) will soon float a fresh global tender to buy three second-hand ships, after an earlier attempt to buy six re-sale vessels failed to generate adequate response. “We have a budget of $200 million (Rs926 crore) to buy second-hand ships,” said U.C. Grover, a director looking after technical and offshore services for India’s biggest ocean carrier by fleet size and revenue. The tender for two dry bulk carriers and a tanker will follow Saturday’s decision by the SCI board to launch a joint venture shipping company with state-owned steel maker Steel Authority of India Ltd.
