|
According to a news conference held by the Shanghai municipal government, in 2009 Port of Shanghai's cargo throughput stood at 590 million tons and ranked first in the world for the fifth consecutive year. Its container throughput reached 25 million standard containers, ranking second in the world for the third straight year. Since the State Council formally published opinions on promoting the establishment of Shanghai's international financial center and an international shipment center, all circles of society have given priority to the optimization of a modern container collecting-scattering system and the development of a modern shipping service system, and have vigorously promoted the implementation of various polices and measures. The construction of the Shanghai International Shipping Center has achieved obvious progress. By the end of 2009, 27 of 59 annual key targets that Shanghai established for the construction of the International Shipping Center have essentially been completed or have achieved important breakthroughs.
